Learn the Secrets of its Unseen Dangers
First I want to clarify I am not a dog breeder. It seem
that people promoting AB1634 think only dogs breeders can see its far
reaching implications. Okay that was kind of a cheep shot. I do believe
I see thing a little different than do dog breeders. I have other issues
with purebred dogs. Some of those are the very reason to oppose the Sick
Dog Law AB1634. By the time this is over I might have everyone hating
me. Some times the truth is hard to accept.
Animal lovers, don't hate me for having an opinion that is different from
yours. One of the great attributes of our governments system is that we
are free to explore different opinion. This diversity is important for
the continued improvement of our civic society. Without diversity we risk
greater calamity in times of social and economic stress.
Inoculating oneself against the risk of change is a big reason many financial
experts recommend a diversified portfolio, even when it seems that one
sector can't lose. Examples here are tech stocks during that bubble and
the real estate market now. The same is true for genetic diversity. Nature
created sex (males) to solve the problem of ensuring diversity. If I see
the world a little different just chalk it up to me doing my part as a
male. (Don't get too upset, the last sentence is a joke.) However, diversity
is important if any group is to adapt to ever changing environmental conditions.
Diversity and adaptation are important for the survival of species, countries,
and societies.
The animal right movement agenda of pets are only slaves to humans, eliminate
animal slavery, has some detrimental side effects. This is especially
true for many of the animals they claim to help. In reality the only rights
any of us have are the ones our governments give us. And when closely
examined we are all owned by our governments. It is just that some governments
give their people more say than do other governments, hence there is more
diversity and freedom. I realize Emotions will stop most people from sharing
my views.
It is my belief that AB1634 will eventually increase the demand for pet
dog trainers by making more bad behaved dogs. The sad thing is there are
already more dogs with behavior problems than society can effectively
managed. One reason for dogs in shelters is undesirable behavior. The
only way to eliminate this problem is to eliminate dogs. Better breeding
will help, but dogs given up to shelters will not go away until dogs go
away.

If the Sick Dog Law AB1634 passes it will be an interesting experiment.
I wish I was around in fifty years to see what happens. At least I will
get to see the early phases of the change. I may be wrong about this laws
impact on our pet dogs. If AB1634 passes I hope I am wrong about its detrimental
effect on dogs.
I do agree that puppy mills and care-less backyard breeders are a big
problem. Dog fighters may even be a bigger problem. Especially here in
California. While there are financial problems with controlling animals,
I still think a mandatory spay and neuter law will be bad for dog and
society in the long run.
However, I have an uncomfortable felling that says I may be right. It's
the same feeling I had about Iraq before the war. The same feeling I had
before the real estate problem.
Before you get on me about the war let me say it is more complicated than
For or Against, and that is a totally different issue with its own emotional
baggage. While the war is a different issue it does give us a glimpse
into how the decision making apparatus of society affects the future.
One lesson we can learn from the war is how a political act can affect
the future. We do this by learning how to see things that are far off,
like they are here today. Let us try to see how restricting the pet dog
gene pool will affect future generations of dogs and the people they live
with.
